FEBRUARY 2010 SPEAKER—CYNDY JIVIDEN

Our February speaker, Cyndy Jividen is the assistant director for the Clark County Park District. She has taught classes at the Davidson Interpretive Center since 1999. The Interpretive Center is in Springfield (off Rt. 4) across from the George Rogers Clark Park. She teaches 18th Century hearth cooking classes, spinning wool or flax with wheel, and drop spindle classes. She also teaches making center seam pucker toe Indian moccasins. She has several of our Art Association members in her Sumi-e classes. Cyndy learned Sumi-e from her Japanese brother-in-law and enjoys reading Sumi-e painting books and watching videos. Cyndy has been interested in puppets and marionettes since she was very young and received a Howdy Doody puppet as a gift. Jim Rose was her teacher in creating, building and entertaining with marionettes. Jim's father made the original Howdy Doody marionette. She will show us her Sumi-e and some puppets—BUT another of her talents is the ancient art of reverse painting on glass that she has been doing for 10 years. She learned reverse painting from Linda Katon, a member of the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association, and will show us the many stages of painting on glass with oil paints. Her authentic art glass painting is done in layers and is very interesting. This will be a presentation in many different types of Early American art and a demo of reverse painting. Don't miss it.

CONTACT GAYLE BEIREIS ABOUT FREE GALLERY SHOWS

Happy New Year Members! This year I hope that more of you will be smart enough to use our FREE Gallery to show your Beautiful Works of Art. I've seen them and I know how talented you are. Teachers, give your class a chance to put their work on display (remember they must to be a member). It is a good time to pick a friend or two and do a show with them. We can put it in the newspapers and you can mail out some notes to all your friends, coworkers, gym buddies, clients, and family, and ask them to come. You might be surprised at what could happen. I have done so, and I enjoyed myself while making money. Patty Tateman and I are doing a show together in April 2010. There are still other open months; they are July, September, October, and November of 2010. You could book as far ahead as February 2011, to give yourself lots of time to get together and plan some fun. All you've got to do is call: Gayle Beireis at 937-390-1992 or 937-207-9046 to see what time is best for you.
