Janet Rogers gave a demonstration of “Expressive Watercolor Portraits” to the assembled members on Tuesday evening October 7, 2014. Ms. Rogers is a member of the American Watercolor Society and the Florida Watercolor Society. She is a nationally known instructor in watercolor, giving workshops throughout the U.S. as well as in Europe. She has her own line of instructional DVDs and had her work published in both magazine and book form. During the week of October 6-9 she was conducting a watercolor workshop for all levels of artists at the FAA Gallery. Her goal was to give the students confidence to approach portraits and floral subjects in a expressive and ┬áspontaneous ┬ámanner.

She uses an intuitive approach to working in watercolor, for both portraits, and floral subjects. Her discussion of her training, techniques, and materials were both entertaining and humorous. While she was talking to the members she was able to complete a beautiful watercolor portrait from start to finish in an hour’s time. It was a masterful performance.
