Dear Members, Patrons and Friends,

It truly looks like spring is here. Even though we have been blessed with such a mild winter, it is always a joy to see the daffodils blooming. Our demo artist for our next meeting is Charles Rowland from Columbus. His work is outstanding and we are excited to have him. You may Google him to see his paintings. The next FAA meeting is at 7 pm on April 5 with the Board meeting at 6 pm.

Louise Jackson
Interim President

APRIL SPEAKER—CHARLES ROWLAND
Charles Rowland works in various media, including watercolor, gouache and acrylic. He has lived in the Columbus, Ohio area since 1970 and currently resides in southern Delaware County. A watercolor artist for over 40 years, he is both an active artist and teacher. His work has won many awards in Ohio area exhibitions and can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the United States. His work is represented by The Canoe Club Gallery, Port Clinton, Ohio, The Terra Gallery, Dublin, Ohio, and various exhibitions around the state. He is past President of the Worthington Area Art League, a signature member and past secretary of the Ohio Watercolor Society, Central Ohio Watercolor Society, Central Ohio Plein Air Painters and the Worthington, Ohio Art League. He was featured in the February/March 2004 article “Master Painters of the USA” in International Artist Magazine. His work is included in the 2012 hard cover book The Best of American Artists–Watercolor. His work is characterized by strong design and a solid approach to the technical fundamentals of the medium. While avoiding photorealism, his painting style captures the essence and emotion of the subject while involving the viewers’ imagination in its interpretation. The choice of subject matter is diverse ranging from seascapes and landscapes to still lifes and portraits. An avid sailor, his work is often based on nautical themes which frequently are taken from his Great Lakes and Chesapeake sailing experiences. In a recent review the Columbus Dispatch characterized his work as having “the soft gauzy look that is often characteristic of watercolor but it also has a strong graphic quality.” A selection of his paintings and drawings can be found on his website at: http://charleswrowland.zenfolio.com .

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP with Tom Francesconi, AWS, NWS, TWS
The Fairborn Art Association is sponsoring a watercolor workshop with Tom Francesconi May 2 through May 5, 2016 (Monday through Thursday), 9 am to 4 pm daily. The workshop will be held at the Fairborn Art Association Gallery, located in the rear of the Fairborn Senior Apartment Building, 221 N. Central Avenue, Fairborn, OH. Tom’s energetic teaching style and his passion for painting combine to create a workshop experience that is enjoyable and informative. Any artist looking to break free of a careful, timid painting process will find Tom’s direct and representational approach very inspirational. Utilizing his ability to clearly explain visual concepts, Tom will share his approach and methods for painting bold and interpretive watercolors. Within this process, students will learn how to create stronger, more effective visual statements. Each morning will begin with a discussion covering various topics and culminating in a demonstration that allows participants to see how Tom approaches a work from start to finish. Subject matter may include landscapes, street scenes with people, and the clothed figure. Ample opportunity is provided for everyone to paint with individual direction/guidance a priority. Each day will end with a class critique to afford students the opportunity to learn from the works of others. Tom welcomes all painters regardless of experience. For more information about Tom, visit his website at www.tomfrancesconi.com. The fee for this workshop is $230 for FAA members, $250 for non-members. To register, please send a non-refundable deposit of $40 along with the registration form to Yuki Hall, 206 E. Holmes St. Urbana, IL 61801. Make checks payable to Fairborn Art Association. VIRTUAL ART TOUR FOR SANDY KINNAMON EXHIBIT
Yesterday (Saturday, March 19) was the reception for the Sandy Kinnamon exhibit at ReMax in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and I was able to attend the reception. I did get the opportunity to spend about an hour and talk with Sandy’s husband Jim and daughters Debbie and Heidi and hear firsthand about her life. Sandy was remarkable and shared her deep passion and love of art with everyone. Sandy loved to teach and travel so that she could share and teach others. Before leaving, Brett Weaver, Realtor, asked me to share a link for Sandy’s art show with as many people as possible. The link is below and I ask that you share with all your artist friends or anyone that would love to see the virtual art tour of the last exhibit in which Sandy actually hung the paintings. The link is as follows and you can read the quick guide to show you how to navigate. https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=rcWXLzTgg51 …Submitted by Connie Gifford

Note: For those of you who do not already know, our president, Sandy Kinnamon, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016. Her passing was a great loss to her family, her students, her many friends, and to the art world. Her obituary is available on our website.
