PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hello Fellow Artists,
Happy New Year to you all! I can’t believe we are a quarter of the way through this century… where has the time gone? We have had lots of snow and chilly temperatures already this winter and more is expected. We are having a new furnace and air conditioner installed as I sit writing this, which will be very much appreciated with our next artic clipper’s arrival. I could have used this same amount of money to go to Australia and New Zealand with my sister. I believe I made the wiser decision in the long run, but I would much rather be saying, “Good’ay, mate”! I hope 2025 is going well for each and every one of you.
Our Tuesday, February 4, 7:00 pm meeting will feature Chuck Marshall as our guest artist, an oil painter who will be presenting a slide show. I look forward to hearing what he has to say since I haven’t painted with oils since my college days. I pray that we have decent weather that night so we will have a good turnout.
June will complete my fourth and final year as president, so if anyone is interested in taking over that position, please contact any of the board members or Carol Collett. You must be a member and active in the organization.
I want to remind you that we will be having an art show in our gallery this summer to celebrate Fairborn’s 75th anniversary. We will need a chairperson to organize a committee, and I feel that the art pieces should represent Fairborn, present and past. You may contact me if you have any questions.
I would like to thank everyone for all their aid in cleaning up, and putting away chairs and tables, after each meeting. It is so helpful and all the extra hands get it done quickly! What a wonderful group of people you are!!!
I haven’t been able to do much painting this year, but I sure hope you all are, so keep creating and I will see you in February!
Linda Brandenburg, President
FEBRUARY’S GUEST ARTIST – CHUCK MARSHALL
Our guest artist for this month, Chuck Marshall, will give a slide presentation of his process working in oil paints:
Although I am not a fan of titles I am considered a Contemporary American Impressionist. My work is about the dialogue of shapes, tones, colors, textures, edges, and line no matter what the subject matter is. By using these elements as a dialogue in my art I am not bound by subject matter and I am able to explore and experiment in order to create a statement and mood. I work in a range of styles while experimenting from tight realism to loose impressionism, to almost pure abstract. I enjoy a marriage of the styles most of all to achieve my end goal. My hope is to engage and influence the viewer on an intellectual and emotional level.

The Members’ show is held in the month of May with the awards ceremony taking place at the meeting on May 6. Linda Perry and I will be reaching out for volunteers to help hang the show and sit the gallery in the next couple months so be thinking about ways that you can help. FAIRBORN ART ASSOCIATION MAY 2025 WORKSHOP
Fairborn Art Association will present a “Paint Bold in Watercolor” Workshop on May 5–7, 2025, with award winning artist Fran Mangino:
Watercolor could be the most exciting medium but it is often unforgiving and difficult. Students will go step by step to design a composition while working the human figure into their painting. The goal is to capture the essence of the subject while producing mood and atmosphere, while using values and contrast. Hopefully, students will achieve their next level as an artist. I want each student to choose their own image from what I have to paint. Students will not be on the same level in the process of watercolor. Therefore, I hope to help each student individually with their painting problems. “One size fits all” is rare.

The registration form for this workshop will soon be available in the gallery and on our website.
VILLAGE ARTISANS B&W+1 ART EXHIBIT
Village Artisans are presenting a “B&W+1” art exhibit in their Lobby Gallery at 100 Corry Street, Yellow Springs, Ohio. Their artists were challenged to create artwork using only three colors: black, white, and another color of the artist’s choice. The show runs through March 5, 2025, during regular gallery hours, and is free and open to the public.
