On Tuesday June 2, 2015, the F.A.A. membership gathered at the Gallery. The agenda for the June Social was full, with important items to be accomplished.
First item was the introduction of the 2015 Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival King and Queen. This year’s King and Queen are Leroy Farthing and Ellen Sloner Farthing. They will reign over the Festival on August 15 & 16 at Fairborn Community Park. The Festival is the sole fund raising event for F.A.A., so it is very important to us!
Next on the agenda was the presentation of the 2015 F.A.A Scholarship Winner. This year’s winner of a $1000 award was Mila Nickelman from Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio. In addition to her natural artistic gifts, her innovative spirit, and willingness to practice, create, explore ideas and materials have resulted in her growth as an artist. Ms. Nickelman speaks fluent Italian, and has also studied Spanish. She is a member of Fairmont’s swim team and is in the National Honor Society. She intends to pursue her art education at the University of Cincinnati’s Design Art Architecture and Planning School in the fall of 2015. In addition to the scholarship awarded by F.A.A., Ms. Nickelman received a $500 scholarship award from the Miamisburg Starving Artists, Inc. This award was presented by F.A.A. member Cass Barth.
The Board of Directors and the Staff of Fairborn Art Association also were acknowledged and honored at the meeting. The Board members and staff perform their tasks diligently throughout the year to keep the organization running smoothly.
Finally it was time for good food and drink, fellowship, and a good time! Skip Hoyt provided musical entertainment for the enjoyment of the members. Everyone brought good things to eat and there was plenty of food for everyone. In all it was a wonderful time. Photos by R. Beireis unless otherwise noted.
