Dear Members, Patrons, and Friends,
We are very excited about the June 7th meeting. We will be awarding our two scholarship recipients a check for $1000 to help on their pursuit of art on their college adventure. We will introduce the King and Queen of the Sweet Corn Festival. This event is so important to us because it is our major fundraiser which pays our rent, scholarships, etc., and allows us to keep our dues so low. Our meeting is a party and we ask everyone to bring food to share and we will provide drinks and music. You may also bring a painting to hang for our member show. You will get to vote for your favorite paintings in the Popular Choice Judging; you get to be the judge this time. No registration, just bring your painting and take it home when you leave. See you then. Our meeting/social is June 7 at 6 pm; the Board will meet at 6 pm.

F.A.A. MEMBERSHIP DUES
Fairborn Art Association Membership dues for 2016/2017 are due by June 1, 2016 for you to be able to participate in our activities for the coming year. Our membership year begins on June 1 and runs until May 31 of the following year. Please complete a membership form to allow us to have the latest information about you. This helps us to schedule speakers, workshops, and other activities. We would also like to have your email address to enable us to reach you quickly in case of weather emergencies, etc. Also, someone must hand-stuff regular mail and take it to the post office and this takes a lot of time and effort. Our membership has grown quite a bit since we first started with mailing out newsletters and announcements. Please send your membership form and a check to Fairborn Art Association, P.O. Box 1231, Fairborn, OH 45324. The membership form may be obtained at the Gallery or is attached. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the form. Please go to https://get.adobe.com/reader/ to download the software. It is free and easy to install. You may need it for many of the websites you visit. You may bring the membership form and your check (or cash) to the June meeting and submit them as you sign in at the door. All members who pay by the June 7th meeting will be included in the new Directory.

ANNE ABGOTT WORKSHOP
From November 1 to November 3, 2016, the Fairborn Art Association will be hosting Anne Abgott for a 3-day workshop. I recently took a class from her in Florida and found her to be an outstanding teacher with great ideas and innovations to bring a colorful, award winning touch to your watercolor painting. Cost for the 3-day classes will be $275.00. A $40.00 nonrefundable deposit is required to hold your place in the workshop. A minimum of 10 students is required. A registration form is available on our website www.fairbornart.org.
Anne began painting in oils as a child and was mentored by Alexander Luke, one of the premier Canadian artists. She moved to Florida in 1998 and began working in watercolor. She is very influenced by the light and color she finds in Florida, and she has honed her skills with many, many hours of painting. She has found an art-rich environment in Florida and feels that the encouragement and friendship of the local artists are a big part of her success. She is an acclaimed mentor and true master teacher. She has been an “art mom” to her students, and many have gone on to become accomplished and award-winning artists themselves. She has conducted over 100 workshops and is in demand as a juror for many exhibitions. Her latest contract is with the Watercolor Art Society-Houston, or WAS-H, for a workshop and judging their upcoming National Show in 2016. Anne has achieved Signature status in seven National Watercolor Societies, not including the holy grail for watercolorists: AWS and NWS. You are invited to visit her website at www.anneabgott.com for examples of her work and a more extensive resume. For additional information about this workshop, please contact Pat Dunker at [email protected].

OPEN PAINTING SESSIONS AT THE GALLERY
Thursday Paint-In group meets each Thursday from 9:30 till 12:30 for watercolor painting. Connie Gifford and Shirlee Bauer coordinate the group which was originally created by Misuk Goltz, who recently moved to California. Because we are using the FAA Gallery, we collect dues to pay for the use of the Gallery, but all things considered, a few dollars for each 8-week session is well worth it for gathering together with watercolor to share ideas and get inspired. We all have a wonderful time and enjoy watercolor painting together. If you have questions, please contact Connie Gifford or Shirlee Bauer by phone or email.
Friday artists meet at 10 am and paint until 1 or 2 pm each week, with a break at noon for lunch. We meet each week continuously unless there is something else scheduled in the FAA Gallery. Billie Dickson coordinates the group and we don’t paint if only two of us will be there, but anyone can contact Billie to find out if we are on schedule for that week. We expect people who come regularly to be FAA members and pay a fee each week (pays for lights, etc.). It is basically an open work session for artists in any medium and we would love to have others join us. If you have questions, you can contact Billie Dickson by email or phone.
