 Hello All,

It’s End of Year Celebration time!  Our meeting on June 4 is a celebration of a successful season instead of a regular meeting. If you are attending, please bring food or drink to share for refreshments! Yes, everyone. We will have tables set up so you won’t have to balance your plate on your lap.

We will vote for the artwork entered in the People’s Choice Exhibit (see article below), and present awards for your artwork; thank our volunteer leaders for 2018-19; install new officers; announce the Sweet Corn Festival Royalty for 2019; announce our three scholarship winners – Mia Agidenreich from Stivers School of the Arts, Jada Keplinger from Global Impact STEM Academy, and Aliya Moss from Greenon High School. It is a fun evening.

Dues and the Member Information Sheet accompanying dues were due June 1, but we will still allow you to pay them on June 4 to be included in the directory.

Please sign up to help with the Sweet Corn Festival August 17, 18, 19. This is our major fundraiser and helps pay for Scholarships and rent. Contact Warren Brown at 937-879-2859 or [email protected] if you have not already signed up. All hands are needed!

Our FaceBook site (bet you didn’t even know there was one) is being deactivated mid June, but expect a new refreshed site by mid July. Lots of updated information about all our events will be there, and we will send an email blast when it is up and running again. We are working on the website as well.

The Gallery will be painted this summer and the restroom has already been updated. Please be sure to remove your art and other personal belongings after the June meeting to make it easier for the painters. Items left in the office, kitchen (including refrigerator), and gallery will be thrown out or donated unless prior arrangements are made. Be sure to thank Roger and Jean Browning after you are pleasantly surprised with the new look.

Next meeting is Tuesday, September 3 at 7 pm.  Board meeting is at 6 pm.

SWEET CORN FESTIVAL

Our Sweet Corn Festival is only about 2-1/2 months away. As you all know this is our major fund raiser for the FAA. We run on volunteers so we need you to volunteer some time August 15, 16, 17, or 18. We will need help on Thursday the 15 laying out the park; manning the gate and helping vendors find their spot on Friday the 16; the watermelon booth, information booth, and entry gate on Saturday and Sunday 17 & 18. So please sign up on the sheets at the May and June meeting. If you can’t make those meetings, let us know at the FAA number and we can get you on one of the tasks. Shifts usually run 3 to 4 hours; we can work around your schedule. Thanks in advance for your help on this important event.

YUKI  HALL WORKSHOPS

Outdoor Sketching Workshops

Yuki Hall will be teaching Session 2 of her outdoor sketching workshops “Fun with outdoor sketching” June 11–June 13, 2019.  This is the second of two independent sessions and students can still register for this one. We will be sketching at Cox Arboretum, Carriage Hill Farm as well as The Greene. In this workshop, students will learn about the variety of sketching supplies available, how to select and simplify a complex subject by extracting the most important feature of the subject while leaving unnecessary details out. You will also learn how to steer away from illustrative ‘coloring-in’ sketching style, but to paint in painterly fashion and add finesse to your sketching. We will be sketching mainly with watercolor, with additional use of both permanent and water-soluble pens. All levels are welcome. The cost includes two types of pens.  For more information or/and to register contact Yuki at (937) 679-2464, [email protected].

3-Day Indoor Watercolor Workshop

Yuki will also offer a 3-day indoor workshop, “Watercolor – Painting Loosely” at the Fairborn Art Association Gallery from June 24 to June 26, 2019. In this workshop, students will learn how to break away from coloring-in painting style and start painting watercolor with confident brush strokes and expressive edge qualities for more spontaneous and impressionistic appearance. In addition, effective use of eloquent calligraphy will be discussed. This workshop is designed to help students gain insight in discovering the true quality of watercolor so that he/she can create paintings with maximum visual and emotional impact. The cost for this workshop is $140.  For more information or/and to register, contact Yuki at (937) 679-2464, [email protected]. A brochure/registration form for each of Yuki’s workshops is attached.
