PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hello Fellow Artists!
I hope you all have stayed safe and warm through all this snowy, winter weather. Even though I am not wild about driving in the snow, I do love to watch it snow and see it making the gray, dreary winter landscape white and quietly beautiful. I hope some of you have been painting some snowscapes and creating in general.
Sara Wilson Green, our guest artist for our Tuesday, March 4, meeting at 7:00 pm, will be demonstrating oil painting techniques. I learned so much at our last meeting about oils and am looking forward to learning more and hope to see many of you there!
I want to remind you that our Members’ Fine Art Show will be coming up soon and there will be a few new items in the prospectus, i.e.
a. The drop off date will be one week earlier this year (Tuesday, April 22).
b. We will need more volunteers to gallery sit since we will be open during the day on April 26–May 4, May 8–11, and May 18.
c. Your artwork will be able to be taken immediately when sold, due to out-of-town visitors.
d. If your artwork is sold before the judging, you may enter another piece.
e. The show will begin on April 26 and hang until after our June 3 Social.
These rules are for this year only because of the special Dayton Society of Interior Designers 2025 Show House in Fairborn. We are excited to be a part of this and will hopefully expose more of the public to our wonderful Gallery and artwork! More details will be available in the prospectus.
To tandem on this subject, I would like to thank Cindy Sayeedi and Linda Perry for doing such a great job on our Members’ shows. They took over from Connie Gifford and Carol Edsall and have done a superb job! There are many factors and tasks to coordinate, not to mention all the new information I just threw at them because of this special show year, so THANK YOU to you both for all your hard work!!!
With that, I will close this little epistle and remember, Spring is just around the corner! Keep Creating!
Linda Brandenburg, President
MARCH’S GUEST ARTIST – SARA WILSON GREEN
Our March 4, 2025, meeting will feature an oil painting demonstration by guest artist Sara Wilson Green. Sara will be using gamsol which is not toxic and is odorless.

Sara Wilson Green
Visual Artist, Dayton, Ohio
Not chronologically young (b. 1956 in Detroit, Michigan)
Michigander at heart but terribly fond of Ohio.
Inspiration: “Quiet” moments in time. Finding a view in familiar or new places…
Set up the easel!
Time to paint!
My love of the “view” has been a long standing interest in my life. I often work “en plein air” (painting observationally outdoors) which requires standing in front of the easel for hours with full focus and study on what you are seeing. For me every work created evokes vivid memories of the day I did it complete with sounds, weather and the connection to that place in time. My studio work is inspired by the photos I have taken while exploring the beauty I find. I have worked in many art media but oil is my confirmed favorite. I am a realist with a dash of impressionism.
I studied Art at Alma College, Michigan, taught K-12 art all over Ohio including 20+ years in Miamisburg, Ohio. I have been married for 46 years and we have two children, one daughter in law, and two grandchildren. We have lived in Dayton for about 35 years and have a cottage in Michigan. These places, among others, have been a continual source of inspiration. Retirement about 6 years ago has given me the time not only to travel, be with friends and family but to have a more intense focus on art. It seems that “special” places to paint can be found wherever I go.

FAA MEMBERS’ FINE ART SHOW IN MAY 2025
We are getting excited for the Members’ Fine Art Show in May! We will be setting up the show a week early this year (Tuesday, April 22) due to the Dayton Society of Interior Designers 2025 Show House that is taking place in Fairborn. This showcase will be held from April 26–May 11 so we will need some more people to sit the gallery during this event. There will be more information available at the March meeting. During this Designers Show House, there will be tours of the area including the FAA gallery with the possibility of selling some artwork. Due to this special showcase, we will be allowing artwork that is for sale to be purchased and taken home during the two weeks’ time frame. With this in mind, if you have a piece for sale, it could be sold before the judging of the show.
This year’s show will be judged by Fran Mangino! The prospectus for the show will be available in a week or so and we will have a link to it on the website. We will have volunteer sign-ups at the March meeting. You can volunteer to help on the registration/drop off day or volunteer to sit the gallery on Sundays in May or during the special two week showcase period. We appreciate any help you can give us. There will also be flyers available at the March meeting so take a couple and hand them out to family and friends. We look forward to seeing you.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us: Cindy Sayeedi, primitivepainter@sbcglobal.net and Linda Perry, lindakay652002@yahoo.com
REGISTER NOW FOR THE FAA MAY 2025 WORKSHOP
Registration is now open for the Fairborn Art Association May 2025 Workshop! “Paint Bold in Watercolor” with guest artist Fran Mangino will be held on May 5–7, 2025:

Watercolor could be the most exciting medium but it is often unforgiving and difficult. Students will go step by step to design a composition while working the human figure into their painting. The goal is to capture the essence of the subject while producing mood and atmosphere, while using values and contrast. Hopefully, students will achieve their next level as an artist. I want each student to choose their own image from what I have to paint. Students will not be on the same level in the process of watercolor. Therefore, I hope to help each student individually with their painting problems. “One size fits all” is rare.
Artist Statement & Biography
“Somewhere deep inside me lies the need to express myself that can only be realized through my art. My paintings are a glimpse into how I view the world around me. The works are not illustrations but interpretations. I want the viewer to feel and see as I do.”
Fran’s award winning watercolors are in public and private collections. They have been featured in art centers, art museum exhibitions in the U.S. and in China. The works are also included in #5 Splash Books, Splash, A Retrospective 20 years; 2017 Art Journal, Animals; The Artist Magazine, Dec 2021. Fran’s latest awards were American Impressionist Society’s 4th Annual Associate Member Online Exhibition May 29, 2024 Award of Distinction for Head Chef.
