PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hello Fellow Artists!
My goodness… here we are entering May already, although the weather sometimes makes it feel like it is still March. I go between flip-flops and heavy socks and boots! Oh well, I’m sure soon enough I will be complaining about the heat and humidity, so it’s all good. I would like to say that we have a new president in the wings, but alas, that is not the case, so we will have to go to Plan B… now if we only had a Plan B! Stay tuned…
We have so many shows and activities coming up, so please read your newsletter carefully. I’m excited for our Members’ Show and to see everyone’s new masterpieces since we have so many interesting, creative artists who never fail to awe and amaze me. We also have our workshop with Fran Mangino, organized by Shirlee Bauer, and our Virtual 4th of July show, celebrating Fairborn’s 75th anniversary, chaired by Paula Whittington.
We will be having our annual potluck on June 3, honoring our three scholarship winners, the 2025 Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival king and queen, and installation of officers, so mark your calendars for this fun evening.
Several people have asked me if our rent will be raised due to the new owners, and as far as I know, we are locked into a five year contract that we signed last year. The new owners have improved our gallery by installing new lights, new faucet, and cleaned our kitchen sink, and are hopefully going to replace the broken panes in our windows.
I would like to thank some wonderful people in FAA who have helped in various ways:
Paula Whittington and Carol Collett for beautifying the outside of our gallery.
Connie Gifford for helping me technically to view our scholarship entries.
Paula Whittington for printing our cards for the Gallery of Dayton Designers Show House.
Shirlee Bauer for designing our new FAA brochures and business cards.
That’s it for now, so keep creating and see you on Tuesday, May 6, at 7:00 pm for a demo with guest artist Fran Mangino!
Linda Brandenburg, President
MAY’S GUEST ARTIST – FRAN MANGINO
The Fairborn Art Association is pleased to welcome Fran Mangino as our guest artist for May. Fran will serve as our judge for the Members’ Fine Art Show, as the instructor for the May 5–7 Workshop, and as the guest demo artist for our meeting on May 6.

“Somewhere deep inside me lies the need to express myself that can only be realized through my art. My paintings are a glimpse into how I view the world around me. The works are not illustrations but interpretations. I want the viewer to feel and see as I do.”

Fran’s award winning watercolors are in public and private collections. They have been featured in art centers, art museum exhibitions in the U.S. and in China. The works are also included in #5 Splash Books, Splash, A Retrospective 20 years; 2017 Art Journal, Animals; The Artist Magazine, Dec 2021. Fran’s latest awards were American Impressionist Society’s 4th Annual Associate Member Online Exhibition May 29, 2024 Award of Distinction for Head Chef. Over 2,242 entries, 258 were juried in; Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition 2024, VA, McDonaldstein Award and Outstanding Whiskey Painting; Zanesville Art Museum 78th Ohio Annual Exhibition, Watercolor Award. Memberships: Whiskey Painters of America, signature; Florida Watercolor Society, signature; Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society, signature/master; Ohio Watercolor Society, signature.
