PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hello Fellow Artists!
As many of you know, I turned 70 recently which just seems unbelievable since mentally I act and feel 17… LOL, okay, maybe 37. Would you believe 57? 70 is a whole new mindset, which I can choose to respond to positively or negatively. It is easy to complain about aches and pains and believe the end is near, but I hope I will continue to see new possibilities and adventures ahead, since I truthfully feel like I am finally blossoming at this stage of my life (talk about a late bloomer!). We are never too old to learn something new, especially in the art world, i.e., David R. Smith’s demo last month in which he did a painting of rocks. I would never have guessed that painting rocks could be so new and exciting! I pray that every one of you continue to grow and expand your knowledge and experiences so that you may bless others with your creations.
Just a reminder that our Christmas Party will be the second Saturday, December 14, from 3:00–5:00 pm at the Gallery. I know our new directory says the first Saturday, and I’m sure that’s my fault, but I always take part in a craft show in Tipp City the first Saturday of December. Our meal will be catered again so you will need to get your reservations to Debbie Cosenza by Friday, December 6. We will also have a $15 gift exchange, if you wish to participate, with Warren Brown acting as Santa Claus.
This month I would like to thank Sheryl Scott for doing an OUTSTANDING job as our Sweet Corn Festival Vendor Coordinator. She works tirelessly throughout the year, personally calling and corresponding with our many vendors and dealing with various issues and problems that creep up. She is understanding, smooths ruffled feathers, works with their vendor sites, and keeps me informed of all current situations. She goes above and beyond, and I appreciate her so much, so KUDOS to you, Sheryl!
Our Tuesday, November 5, meeting at 7:00 pm will feature guest artist Rosemary Nick doing a demo on collage. I look forward to seeing you all then!
Take care and keep creating!
Linda Brandenburg, President
NOVEMBER’S FEATURED ARTIST – ROSEMARY NICK
Fairborn Art Association welcomes Rosemary Nick as our guest artist for November with a demo on collage. Her bio follows:
My love of all things paper began as a child. My father worked at a paper mill and an abundant supply of paper filled my spare time and fueled my imagination.
After I retired, I enrolled in the Seniors “Painting and More” class at Sinclair Community College. I started with watercolor and learned many valuable things including perspective, shadows, proportion and design. I love the look of watercolor but when one of our assignments was to “paint” a picture using only torn or cut paper, I knew I had found a medium that I loved.
Last month’s magazine, sharp scissors and a glue stick are my tools. I love to experiment with different backgrounds, patterns and subjects. There are endless possibilities when my supplies are so simple. As I complete each collage, I find that I can’t wait to begin my next adventure.

FAIRBORN SWEET CORN FESTIVAL UPDATE
The Sweet Corn Festival is the major fundraiser each year for the Fairborn Art Association. The finances for the 2024 Sweet Corn Festival are finally done. This year, the festival made a total of $14,695. Of that, the Watermelon Booth provided $4087. Thanks to everyone who supported the festival in any capacity. All the positions are important and the festival would not be successful if we didn’t have the volunteers. Thank you!
