Trish McKinney, nationally known artist and graphic designer, presented her “Layers of Understanding – Creating Layers of Pattern and Meaning” demonstration at the meeting of the Fairborn Art Association on Tuesday, November 6, 2013. She discussed the art of storytelling in a painting by interweaving layers of understanding to create an emotional connection to the viewer. She demonstrated her method of telling a story through the technique of layering patterns over a figurative composition using mixed watermedia. Ms. McKinney has exhibited nationally and won numerous awards, including Ohio Watercolor Society, Western Ohio Watercolor Society, Springfield (Ohio) Art Museum, National Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society International Exhibition, and many others. She has also had her work published in a number of publications and is represented in galleries in Ohio and other states. Her work is included in corporate collections both locally and internationally. Photos by Robert Beireis. Thanks to Jackie Albright and Dora Lawson for Ms. McKinney’s biographical information.
