2014 Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival

On August 16 & 17, 2014, FAA and the Fairborn Lions club sponsored the 33rd Annual Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival at Fairborn Community Park. The Festival is a highlight of the summer in Fairborn, Ohio. There is fun, food, music, arts and crafts vendors of all descriptions, and a great time for everyone.
A large crowd of Miami Valley residents were on hand to enjoy the festival on Saturday and Sunday.
Brief showers did interrupt the festivities on Saturday afternoon, but the rain did little to dampen the mood at the Festival. The Fairborn High School Band played, the Boy Scouts raised the flag, and the King and Queen opened the Festival for everyone to enjoy.

Not Your Pretty Portrait Show

Remember this article from the June 2014 Newsletter? Well, the Prospectus is now attached.

NOT YOUR PRETTY PORTRAIT SHOW—Portraits, Self-Portraits, and Caricatures

Many of us have portraits, self portraits, and/or caricatures that are not the normal pretty painting or drawing. We would like to get your “Not Quite Right” portraits out of your studios, basements, closets, attics, and garages and onto the walls of our gallery in September. Up to three framed pieces may be entered by members free of charge. Non-members may pay $5 per piece, or they are welcome to become members. The show will not be judged and no prizes will be awarded so that the creativity of each piece can be appreciated. Participating artists are invited to tell about their work at the September meeting when discussion about the show will be the topic of the evening instead of an artist demo. Please pick up an entry form at the social on June 3, or at the gallery or Sweet Corn Festival during the summer. Intake will be in the FAA gallery on Wednesday. August 20, 3–7 pm, and Thursday, August 21, 10 am–2 pm. Show dates are Tuesday, September 2, 6:30–9 pm, and Sundays, September 7, 14, and 21, 1–4 pm. Pick up will be Sunday, September 21, 4–5, and Monday, September 22, 1–3.

Questions can be directed to [email protected].                                    …..Submitted by Dora Lawson

The Art of Jazz

The 2014 Fairborn Jazz Festival held each year in Central Park would like to add another piece to the event by incorporating a live artist’s component to the music festival. In cooperation with the Fairborn Art Association, the Jazz Festival Committee would like to invite local and regional artists to participate in this community event.

Booth space will be available at Central Park for a limited number of artists. Our intention is to grow this annual Jazz Festival into a jazz and street art music festival titled “The Art of Jazz” eventually incorporating our Downtown District.

We welcome artists of different styles and mediums to participate in this 2014 event, on Saturday August 2, from 12pm to 8:30pm. There will be a $25 fee for booth space. This fee will be waived for members of the Fairborn Art Association however, registration is still required.

Please contact the Fairborn Parks and Recreation Department at (937)754-3090 for more event information and for a booth application. You can also contact the Parks and Recreation Department at [email protected].
